Certified Educator in Personal Finance ™ (CEPF™)

This program was designed to provide professional development and training for those who are either educators by training or work with clients and communities in a group settings to educate them about the fundamentals of personal finance. The CEPF™ was also designed to integrate and adhere to the Standards and Best Practices in both K-12 and Adult Financial Literacy Education.

Certification ensures that individuals have been trained and tested in educational skills and financial matters. Upon completion of the program the CEPF™ will have the essential tools needed to further their professional advancement and assist their students in learning sound financial principles.

For Profit Employee           $350

The Training Manual is divided into four parts:

Part I of the program details Lesson Planning:

•     Development of the Lesson Plan discusses factors which contribute to an informative lesson and details the components of a lesson plan;

•     Delivery of the Lesson presents options for various presentation settings (physical or otherwise) for the lesson; discusses teaching techniques and roles, various communication skills with ways to improve those skills. Various learning styles are also discussed.

Part II of the program details Fundamentals of Personal Finance:

•     This is a detailed discussion of money management, credit, debt management, investing and retirement, and insurance.

Part III of the program details Standards and Best Practices in both K-12 Personal Finance Education and Adult Financial Literacy Education:

•     By becoming familiar with the Standards, CPE candidates will come to understand skills and concepts that children, young adults, and adults should possess regarding financial literacy;

•     By becoming familiar with Best Practices, the CPE candidate will come to understand what they should be looking for in Financial Education programs.

Part IV of the program is the Resource Guide which includes:

•     Worksheets;

•     A Sample Lesson Plan;

•     Enrollment forms and guidelines;

•     Credit bureau contact information;

•     Websites- both federal and consumer resources;

•     Glossary of terms;

•     Consumer legislation;

•     Code of Ethics;

•     Practice exam.

 The program was designed to be self-study. It is followed by a 100 multiple choice proctored exam. A grade of 70% or better is needed to pass.

The CPFC™ certification is valid for a two year period. Candidates enrolled after January 1st, 2008 will be subject to a $50 certificate reissue fee every two years. This fee covers the costs associated with processing continuing education and reissuing the certificate.  There are no annual membership fees.

There is a 20 Continuing Education Unit requirement over the two year period.  The two year period is effective from the date the exam was taken. Two CEUs must be taken in teaching techniques, and two must be taken in ethics.
